2016 is already shaping up to be an exciting year for the LA Fashion District with a number of events and projects announced for the new year.
LA Fashion Market Week Summer 2016 – The first trade show of the year is only a week away. LA Fashion Market Summer ’16 will take place January 18-21 at all designer showrooms. Market week is a trade-only event in which the Fashion District’s designer showrooms debut their collections for the upcoming season. Buyers from all over the world, representing major department stores and local boutiques alike, attend the trade show to place orders. The full 2016 trade show calendar can be found here. “One of Downtown’s most anticipated dining and drinking spots,” is what LA Downtown News is saying about the City Market South project slated to open in Spring 2016. The project has already announced two restaurants and a bar which will open on the eastern side of the district. One of the restaurants announced is the much anticipated high-end Vietnamese eatery, Slanted Door by Chef Charles Phan. City Market South will feature an open courtyard (pictured above). Additional tenants are expected to be announced later this year.

More Residential – In case you missed it, there’s a slew of residential projects expected to open in the Los Angeles-Santee Street area this year. Urbanize.la has the full round-up here.
Hotel Coming Soon: Hoxton, a London-based hotel company, is transforming a long-time vacant building at 11th Street and S. Broadway into a hotel. No specifics have been announced for the project, but LA Times has some details. This will be the second hotel to open in the Fashion District. The district’s only other hotel, Ace Hotel, is also on Broadway.
Executive Offices and High-End Retail Coming to the Fashion District
Strategic Legacy Investment Group is investing $3.5 million to renovate the property at 221 E 12th Street. The 4-story building formerly known as Santee Center has been renamed Downtown Executive Multiplex and will add executive office space and high-end retail to the district. The first new tenant will be Kelly’s Coffee and Fudge Factory which is slated to open in early 2016. Learn more about the project here.
